Home and School
Welcome to St. Jude the Apostle School for the 2020-2021 school year! We hope you and your family have had a wonderful summer. On behalf of our organization, we would like to introduce you to the St. Jude Home & School Association and tell you about what we do as a parent organization.
The Home & School Association’s purpose is to enhance the quality of campus life for our students and faculty through service activities and fundraising. The money we raise is used to support ongoing school projects as well to fund special new projects. Throughout the year, we rely on our talent database to contact parents and other interested volunteers to support the activities of the organization. SJS’s parent volunteers are an integral part of the school’s excellent reputation in the community for producing academically strong students in a loving, fun, Catholic atmosphere.
Although parent volunteers are not allowed on campus at this time, please consider signing up using the Time and Talent Volunteer link on the next page, should that change at a later date. Please email and return/submit forms no later than Wednesday, August 19.

St. Jude Home and School Committee Descriptions
Beautification: This committee maintains the planters and flowers around the school entrance. They also provide welcoming wreaths throughout the year for the entrance gate.
Birthday Bulletin Board: This committee designs and maintains the birthday bulletin board in the school cafeteria, which displays every student’s birthday on a monthly basis.
Cafeteria: The St. Jude School Cafeteria depends on volunteers to help serve lunch to our students.
Community Campaign: Volunteers for this committee partner with school administrators to support ongoing fundraising efforts related to Box Tops and Community Coffee UPC incentive programs.
Field Day: Volunteers for this committee will assist with field day on the last full day of school for grades 1-7. Students participate in fun, competitive activities. Grades 1-4 compete in the AM; grades 5-7 compete in the PM. Volunteers help with game set up, navigate students from each activity, distribute water, score games, and provide first aid if needed.
Fun Run: This is our major fundraiser for Home & School. Volunteers will assist students on the day of the event as they complete laps around our “Fun Run Track”. This event is held outdoors, and most volunteers can help by serving as lap counters, refreshment servers and with general set up and clean up. Additional tasks such as collecting registrations and donations also provide indoor opportunities to help with this event.
Health: This committee works with the school nurse to aid with vital screening for the students (vision, hearing, scoliosis) during the school year.
Hospitality: There are 5 Home and School events that this committee serves: Grandparents’ Day, Campus Coffees, Science/SS Fair, Pre-K Graduation and 8th Grade Graduation. For these events, this committee coordinates food and decorations, serves as hostesses and cleans up accordingly.
Retreats: Volunteers for retreats will assist the Religion Coordinator with the 1/2 day retreats during the school day. You may volunteer for your child’s grade or to assist with any grade as needed. This is the perfect way to spend time with the students.
Room Mom/Assistant Room Mom: The Room Moms and Assistant Room Moms are responsible for recruiting parent volunteers for classroom activities as needed, assisting the teacher in planning field trips, etc., planning each class party and assigning parents to attend, managing the Activity Fee money, compiling a list of class booth volunteers for the Parish Fair, helping with Teacher Appreciation Week and Luncheon, organizing a class basket for the Auction, and various other duties. Due to Covid-19, duties this year, will be reduced and/or eliminated. Please apply to be a Room Parent or Assistant Room Parent HERE
Santa Land: This committee brings the spirit of Christmas to our children! Volunteers help the students select and purchase gifts for their loved ones, as well as set up and restock merchandise. Shifts last 2-3 hours during the school day.
Square Foot Garden: Volunteers will assist with various projects related to the school garden where students learn about agriculture, caring for plants and the rewards of hard work.
Used Uniform Sale: Parents are given the opportunity to purchase gently used uniforms for a fraction of the cost of buying new. Volunteers are needed to help with set up and the selling of items. There is one sale in the summer and one sale in the winter.
